Art
I found myself missing art while at school, so I joined a risograph prints studio in Berkeley. Making art is a slow and unpredictable process, and I was often reminded of the importance of time:
~Taking time to look at my surroundings while on my daily walks to take photos to use at the studio
~Taking time to set up my files before going to the studio
~Taking time to go to the studio during the week even if I didn't have a concrete plan
~Taking time to look at what came out of the printer before printing another layer
Printmaking is a regular exercise in putting my own principles into work. While I was critical of the pace and intense future-focus of my MBA program, I initially found myself going to the studio and embodying the same approach to my work. I was frustrated by the slow pace of my progress as I learned a new printmaking technique and eager for better results. My favorite painting professor used to say, "There's the perspiration, and then there's the inspiration." I was pushing towards the inspiration without taking time to perspire, experiment, play, and learn. And while the perspiration continues, I hope you enjoy a snapshot of my risograph experiments.
